CITYWIDE — FOLLOWING A REPORT THAT MAYOR ERIC ADAMS IS SKIPPING A MAYORAL FORUM with the city’s largest municipal union, State Sen. and Mayoral candidate Zellnor Myrie is criticizing his opponent for disrespecting public sector workers.  According to a POLITICO article published Wednesday, Feb. 26, Adams had committed to attending a forum that night which District Council 37 is hosting, but now will not be attending, having cited legal advice, according to aides. This year’s mayoral campaign is already crowded, with Myrie having announced his candidacy weeks ago, and with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo expected to announce his own entry into the race later this week. Myrie, a rising star in the state’s political scene, released a statement criticizing Adams’ move.

Declaring that past leaders have placed their own ambitions ahead of New Yorkers’ needs,  Myrie said, “New Yorkers deserve a Mayor who will show up for them, answer the hard questions, and tackle the problems we’re facing with bold solutions. That’s why I’ve proposed Rebuild NYC, which will use every lever and resource to make our city more affordable, liveable and safer.”
