Brooklyn contractor indicted for stealing $318K from Park Slope couple

PARK SLOPE/ WILLIAMSBURG — A WILLIAMSBURG CONTRACTOR has been indicted for allegedly stealing approximately $318,000 from a Park Slope couple during a brownstone renovation, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Monday, Feb. 3.
Hayk Safaryan, 43, is charged with second-degree grand larceny for accepting a $322,523 deposit in June 2022 but performing virtually no work. Instead, he allegedly spent the money on luxury items, including a $28,000 down payment for a Porsche Macan SUV, designer goods from Prada and Alexander McQueen, hotel stays and restaurant bills.
“This defendant allegedly lined his own pockets by taking advantage of a Brooklyn family who put their trust in him,” Gonzalez said.
Safaryan’s contractor license expired in February 2023 and was never renewed. He was arraigned Monday, released without bail, and is due back in court on April 2, 2025.
