Our world in photos: April 5
JERUSALEM — Ramadan in the Old City: Muslim worshippers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound take part in the last Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan in the Old City of Jerusalem, Friday, April 5, 2024. The Mosque is part of the Temple Mount Plaza and is adjacent to the Western Wall Plaza, a sacred site for Jews, so much so that women are admitted only to certain sections of what is also called the Wailing Wall.
The classic portion now faces a large plaza in the Jewish Quarter that is near the southwestern corner of the Temple Mount. Interestingly, the rest of the wall is concealed behind structures in the Muslim Quarter.
KASHMIR — The generational impact of religious conflict: Kashmiri Shiite Muslim boys with Palestinian flag painted on their faces shout slogans as they mark Quds Day, or Jerusalem Day, in support of Palestinians, on the outskirts of Srinagar, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Friday, April 5, 2024. The name Quds Day comes after the Arabic name for Jerusalem. The last Friday of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan has been marked as Quds Day since the start of the 1979 Islamic Revolution led by the Iranian spiritual leader late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
