Our world in photos: April 3
TAIWAN — This is not a tourist attraction… yet. Most likely it will be demolished: A rescue worker stands near the cordoned-off site of a leaning building, one of two that were the most severely damaged, in the aftermath of an earthquake in Hualien, eastern Taiwan during the morning rush hour on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 (around 7:30 p.m. EDT on Tuesday). The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the 7.4 magnitude earthquake, which had several strong aftershocks, killed nine people and injured at least 963 others. Taiwan’s strongest earthquake in a quarter century also damaged buildings and highways on the island and could be felt in parts of China as well. Rescue operations remain underway.
KASHMIR — Quiet moment, peaceful water as boat is docked: A Kashmiri boatman sprays water with his paddle to clean a wooden jetty early morning in Srinagar, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
