PHILIPPINES — Cool cocks fight better, die happier: A fighting cock shakes off water from his head after his owner gave him a bath to cool him down during a hot morning in Quezon City, Philippines, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. The weather bureau said the country will continue to experience very hot days due to the El Nino phenomenon, with some schools shifting to online learning modes to avoid the sweltering summer heat. GAZA STRIP — The remnants of ongoing conflict: A man displays blood-stained British, Polish and Australian passports after an Israeli airstrike in Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, Monday, April 1, 2024. Gaza medical officials say an apparent Israeli airstrike killed four international aid workers with the World Central Kitchen charity and their Palestinian driver after they helped deliver food and other supplies to northern Gaza that had arrived hours earlier by ship. According to the Associated Press, the World Central Kitchen vehicles were in a non-combat zone when attacked. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the attack an “unintended strike,” he stopped short of taking responsibility for it. Meanwhile, World Central Kitchen has pulled out of the region. Many of the casualties are from countries that have been Israel’s allies. Chef José Andrés founded World Central Kitchen in 2010 after a devastating earthquake in Haiti.

INDIANAPOLIS — New rules — you can’t look when you’re shooting: Brooklyn Nets' Nic Claxton (33) is fouled by Indiana Pacers' Jarace Walker (5) during the first half of an NBA basketball game on Monday, April 1, 2024, in Indianapolis. The Nets play their last home game of the regular season on April 10 against the Toronto Raptors, and their closing away game just across the river at Madison Square Garden against the NY Knicks on April 12. The Nets, Brooklyn’s professional-league home team, might not be part of the collegiate March Madness, and they certainly have a way to go to increase their standing from Number 11.
Photo: Darron Cummings/AP
