On Monday, March 4, the Brooklyn Bar Association provided a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar led by John Bonina, a distinguished senior trial attorney renowned for his advocacy and significant achievements in the legal field.

The seminar, titled “CLE Medical Malpractice Update — a Review of Recent Appellate Decisions,” offered an in-depth analysis of medical malpractice cases decided by the 1st and 2nd departments since August 1, 2022.

Bonina, who has made a profound impact in the legal community through his work, shared insights from his more than two decades of experience, highlighting his firm’s success in securing over $200 million in combined settlements and verdicts. Noteworthy cases include a $4,646,000 verdict for wrongful death due to a delayed diagnosis of lung cancer, a $2,500,000 verdict for a family who lost a loved one waiting for emergency surgery, and a $1,646,000 verdict related to another delayed diagnosis of lung cancer.

“This lecture is designed to cover every Appellate Division case from Aug. 1, 2022, up until Jan. 3, 2024, about a year and a half time period,” Bonina explained. Despite the tight schedule with recent cases still emerging, the seminar managed to encompass a broad range of topics, including Late Notice of Claim, Duty, Commencement of Actions, and Statute of Limitations, among others.

Bonina’s dedication to his clients and his innovative trial techniques have not only led to his success in the courtroom but also earned him respect and recognition among his peers. He has given frequent lectures through the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Brooklyn Bar Association, and with the Bay Ridge Lawyers.
