The Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term, was abuzz with excitement and style on Thursday, Feb. 29, as it hosted its annual Fashion Show Extravaganza, marking the grand finale of a month-long series of events celebrating Black History Month.

This year’s event, held in the grand lobby of the courthouse, continued a cherished tradition that has been a highlight for 26 years, bringing together court employees and local designers in a vibrant celebration of culture and creativity.

Presided over by the Hon. Deborah Dowling, co-chair of the Courts’ Black History Month committee alongside Leah Richardson, the event kicked off with a warm welcome from Justice Lawrence Knipel, the administrative judge of the building. The festive atmosphere was further elevated by Hon. Robin Sheares, who served as the commentator for the evening, guiding attendees through the sartorial showcase.

Designed as a spirited conclusion to a series of more educationally focused courthouse events, the Fashion Show Extravaganza offers court employees, including judges, an opportunity to let loose and express themselves through fashion. This year’s lineup featured an array of local talent, with designs from Noni Styles African Fashion, Janice King Art, Brenda Brunson-Bey, Moshood Creations, Lisa McFadden Millinery and Courtney Washington taking center stage. Each designer brought their unique vision to the runway, highlighting the rich diversity and artistic innovation within the Brooklyn community.

The event not only serves as a platform for celebrating the achievements and contributions of Black designers but also fosters a sense of community and solidarity among courthouse staff.
