Brooklyn’s Natoya McGhie becomes a network officer

The Network of Bar Leaders is set to host its Installation Reception and Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Vista LIC Hotel in Queens. Co-sponsored by the New Rochelle Bar Association, the evening will feature an induction ceremony of Michael Kohan as President of the Network.

Kohan, a distinguished member of the Queens Bar Association, brings a wealth of experience and achievement to his new role. A graduate of Queens College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Kohan went on to Hofstra University School of Law, where he not only emerged as a New York State Bar Association, Trial Lawyers’ Section, statewide Trial Team champion, but also had the privilege of studying under the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The owner of the Kohan Law Group, a boutique civil litigation firm, he serves on the Court’s Committee on Character and Fitness, to which he was first appointed in 2018 by the presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, and reappointed in 2022.

Kohan is a dedicated volunteer, offering his services to Legally Links, a nonprofit organization aiding the needy, and regularly speaking at a legal housing clinic in Woodside, Queens. His has given continuing legal education lectures, mostly in the areas of landlord-tenant law and real estate litigation.

As the co-founder of the Jewish Bar Alliance NY and the NYC Legal Referral Network, he has fostered connections and dialogue among legal professionals across New York. His tenure as president of the Network of Bar Leaders is anticipated to further these efforts, bringing together over 50 bar associations in the New York metropolitan area.

The Installation Reception will also see the induction of other officers, including Yacine Barry-Wun, Margaret Ling, Jennifer Frankola Crawford and Natoya McGhie. There will be introductions by Hon. Hilary Gingold and Hon. Edwina Richardson, and a keynote by Hon. Norman St. George.

McGhie, who is representing the Kings County Catholic Lawyers, is a trustee and co-chair of the Mentorship Committee at the Brooklyn Bar Association and a past president of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association. A 2011 New York Law School graduate, McGhie serves as the principal court attorney to Acting Supreme Court Justice Jane Tully.
