Stuyvesant Heights resident sentenced to 20 years for shooting NYPD officer

A 23-year-old man from Stuyvesant Heights was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Wednesday following his guilty plea to attempted murder, announced Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

The sentencing comes after William Moss shot NYPD Officer Connor Boalick, who was responding to a domestic violence call on the night of Dec. 24, 2020.

Officer Boalick’s bulletproof vest prevented more serious injuries.

“It’s a miracle Officer Boalick wasn’t more seriously injured or killed when he was shot by this defendant while answering a domestic violence call,” Gonzalez said. “Today’s lengthy prison sentence holds the defendant accountable for his violent actions while underscoring the dangers our police officers face every day to keep us all safe.”

The incident unfolded as Moss, involved in an escalating argument with his girlfriend, threatened to shoot at her residence in Crown Heights. Responding to a call from the young woman’s mother, officers from the 77th Precinct arrived at the scene. During the investigation, Moss appeared and fired two shots, one of which hit Officer Boalick.

After the shooting, Moss attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly after by pursuing officers. The police also recovered Moss’s 9-millimeter pistol. Officer Boalick received treatment for minor injuries at Kings County Hospital and was released.
