District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the arraignment of 27-year-old Abraham Kentish on charges of attempted murder and assault on Wednesday.

Kentish, formerly residing at the SUS Shelter in East New York, Brooklyn, is accused of a violent spree that resulted in the serious injury of three men.

According to court documents, Kentish allegedly embarked on this violent spree in the early hours of Nov. 12, 2023, targeting vulnerable individuals in their sleep at the SUS Shelter.

The indictment includes three counts of second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, and other charges. Supreme Court Justice Matthew Sciarrino arraigned Kentish, who is currently held without bail and is due back in court on March 7, 2024.

“This defendant allegedly engaged in a horrific spree of violence, brutally stabbing three innocent and vulnerable people as they slept,” Gonzalez said. “We have no tolerance for this kind of random violence in Brooklyn and will now seek to bring the defendant to justice.”

The incidents occurred first at the SUS Shelter, where Kentish allegedly stabbed a 70-year-old man 15 times and another 38-year-old victim twice in the face and once in the elbow. He then reportedly proceeded to the New Lots Avenue subway station, where he is said to have stabbed a 32-year-old man in the neck while the victim was sleeping on a subway car.

All three victims were rushed to Brookdale Hospital to receive treatment for their stab wounds. The defendant was later apprehended by NYPD officers who identified him based on the description that circulated following the attacks.
