The Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association (BWBA) held its annual Holiday Celebration at Brooklyn Law School in Downtown Brooklyn on Tuesday, Dec. 12. The festive event, attended by more than 150 members and guests, was marked by a spirit of giving and communal celebration, with many attendees donning red in line with the holiday season.

The celebration served a charitable purpose, as the BWBA collected unwrapped toys and new children’s coats during the event. These donations, along with proceeds from a raffle, was given to the Safe Homes Project of Brooklyn and the Department of Homeless Services, aiding families affected by domestic violence and homelessness, as well as asylum seekers.

The raffle featured an array of items donated by BWBA members, including Apple products, specialty baskets, concert and Yankees tickets, jewelry, and more. This aspect of the event was a highlight, reflecting the generous spirit of the BWBA community.

Hon. Genine Edwards expressed her gratitude for the team’s effort in organizing the event, “This event is a team effort so I would like to introduce the team including my co-chair Angelicque Moreno,” she said. “Sue Mauro, Sue Wasko, Lisa Michael, and Maya Risman, who is one of the newest members of our board.”

Justice Edwards also highlighted the impact of the donations, stating, “I want to thank you all for all of the wonderful donations which allows the BWBA to be here and to serve families severely affected by domestic violence and homelessness, as well as the asylum seekers.”

President Jovia Radix used the occasion to encourage BWBA membership renewals, underscoring their importance in supporting the association’s philanthropic activities. “Have you renewed your BWBA membership?” President Radix asked. “If you have not, we are taking membership renewals. It helps us to continue to do amazing things like this.”

The BWBA’s Holiday Celebration not only brought together the legal community in a festive setting but also emphasized the association’s commitment to serving and supporting vulnerable groups in the Brooklyn area through its charitable initiatives.
