Since its inception, an estimated 450 students have participated in the Thanksgiving luncheon, serving more than 3,000 meals to the community.

Kate Hesler, director of marketing for the Kings Theater, told the Brooklyn Eagle that “today is a moment where the community really comes together and provides things for those that might not have them. It also gives a chance for the partners of Flatbush to come together and do something for our community that really matters – that really gives back and feels good during challenging times.

“We are so happy to be here once again; we look forward to it every year and will do it again next year,” Hesler added.

Emma Durkin, deputy general manager of the Kings Theatre, expressed her gratitude for the support of the community and generous partners.

“We’re incredibly thankful for the collaborative spirit of our partners, whose contributions are the heartbeat of this annual gathering,” Durkin said, pointing out that that the Thanksgiving luncheon is a time when the community comes together, breaks bread, and extends a helping hand to those in need of a warm holiday meal.

“Hosting this event is an honor, and it underscores our commitment to giving back to the vibrant Flatbush community,” Durkin explained.

“On behalf of the business owners, workers, and property owners of our district, we’re thrilled that Kings Theatre has jumped in to host this event again and are grateful for the dedicated students of the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Erasmus Campus for planning a culturally-relevant, yet traditional, feast,” said Lauren Collins of the Church-Flatbush Community Alliance.

The historic Kings Theatre reopened in 2015 as one of New York’s premiere performing arts venues. Providing a destination for popular entertainment and serving as a resource for local arts groups and community organizations, Kings Theater is a cultural and economic cornerstone of the Flatbush community and a major fixture in Brooklyn’s vibrant cultural landscape.
