District Attorney’s office lights up Diwali in Brooklyn with historic event

District Attorney Eric Gonzalez led the first-ever Diwali celebration hosted by the District Attorney’s Office at CUNY City Tech, embracing cultural diversity and fostering community relations. The Festival of Lights, a cornerstone in the Hindu calendar, was commemorated with traditional festivities and a message of unity.

ADA Iris Das initiated the program, setting the stage for President Russell K. Hotzler of CUNY City Tech, who extended a warm welcome to all attendees. MC Kala Rama introduced DA Gonzalez, who, in the spirit of the festival, lit a Diya alongside honorees, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness.

United States Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma served as the keynote speaker, providing remarks that resonated with the multicultural audience. A captivating performance by Sundari: Zaman the International Dancer followed, infusing the evening with traditional artistry.

The event also included an award ceremony, honoring NYC Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi and NYS Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar for their contributions to the community.

DA Gonzalez has been at the forefront of such initiatives, firmly believing that community cooperation is paramount to the safety and prosperity of Brooklyn.
