The Bay Ridge Lawyers Association is sailing into fresh waters with its debut fishing tournament, planned for Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 a.m.

The outing, slated to take place at Gypsea Fishing Charter at 2501 Knapp St. in Sheepshead Bay, is part of a broader initiative to diversify the types of events that the association offers its members.

Adam Kalish, who recently assumed the role of the association’s president, told the Eagle that the impetus behind the fishing tournament was to create a bonding experience that deviates from the more traditional legal education events. Although legal education remains the cornerstone of the association, Kalish stressed the importance of camaraderie among its members.

“Events like this fishing tournament make the bar association stronger by ensuring that members can connect on a personal level, in addition to the professional,” he said.

The event comes with notable sponsorship. Eric DiNapoli, a key figure on the association’s board of directors and a recent lecturer at their Spring Seminar in Atlantic City, is sponsoring the event along with Morgan Stanley.

Kalish is optimistic that the event will be a memorable one. “I expect everyone involved will have an unforgettable experience,” he said.

With a goal of enriching the association’s community spirit, the fishing tournament serves as an innovative method of fostering relationships that extend beyond the courtroom or the classroom.
