Clarification: Brooklyn political community abuzz about Judicial Convention
MARINE PARK — Later today (Thursday, Aug. 10), the official Kings County Democratic Judicial Convention takes place, at which time the party will nominate six candidates for New York State Supreme Court. While much publicity has preceded the event, the facts are that no nominations will be official until the judicial convention votes sometime after 6 p.m. tonight.
As is traditionally the case, judicial candidates who have not received the official endorsement of the judicial convention are expected to withdraw their candidacy, as their path to a nomination and eventual election in November will be highly unlikely.
A number of early press reports seeking to reveal the official Brooklyn Democratic Party’s preferences have attempted to present the nominations as ‘fait accompli,’ when actually the nominations are not official until after the convention votes tonight.
