MEXICO — Camped out: Pilgrims camped outside the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, early on Monday. Devotees of the Virgin of Guadalupe make the pilgrimage for her Dec. 12 feast day, the anniversary of one of several apparitions of the Virgin Mary witnessed by an Indigenous Mexican man named Juan Diego in 1531.

PERU — “Close the Congress”: Supporters of ousted President Pedro Castillo carried an inflated rat that reads in Spanish: “Close the Congress” as they passed in front of Congress in Lima, on Sunday. Peru’s Congress voted to remove President Pedro Castillo from office Wednesday and replace him with the vice president, shortly after Castillo tried to dissolve the legislature ahead of a scheduled vote to remove him.
