GREECE — Plane crash: A flame was seen amid the debris of an Antonov cargo plane in Palaiochori village, northern Greece, on Sunday after it crashed near the city of Kavala. The An-12, a Soviet-built turboprop aircraft operated by the Ukrainian cargo carrier Meridian, crashed late on Saturday as Greek Civil Aviation authorities said the flight was heading from Serbia to Jordan.

GUATEMALA — Funeral: Maria Sipac Coj embraced the coffin that contained the remains of her son Pascual Melvin Guachiac Sipac, during a funeral service, in Tzucubal, Nahuala, on Saturday. The 13-year-old was among a group of migrants who died of heat and dehydration in a trailer-truck abandoned by smugglers on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, on June 27.

UNITED KINGDOM — Extreme heat: People prepared to enter the sea in Penzance, Cornwall, on Monday. The British government issued its first-ever “red” warning for extreme heat. The alert covered large parts of England on Monday and Tuesday, when temperatures reached 104°F for the first time, posing a risk of serious illness and even death among healthy people, the U.K. Met Office, the country’s weather service, said on Friday.
