TAIWAN — Photo-op: Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen posed for photos from the cockpit during a ceremony to commission into service 64 upgraded F-16V fighter jets at an Air Force base in Chiayi in southwestern Taiwan on Thursday. Taiwan deployed the most advanced version of the F-16 fighter jet in its Air Force, as the island stepped up its defense capabilities in the face of continuing threats from China.

WASHINGTON — Storm damage: A woman cleaned out her flood-damaged home on Wednesday, in Sumas. An atmospheric river — a huge plume of moisture extending over the Pacific and into Washington, Oregon, and parts of British Columbia in Canada — caused heavy rainfall in recent days, bringing major flooding in the area.
