JAPAN — State of Emergency ends: People were reflected in a puddle as they walk across a street in a shopping district on Tuesday, in Tokyo. Japan fully came out of a coronavirus state of emergency for the first time in more than six months on Oct. 1. The country started gradually easing virus measures to help rejuvenate the pandemic-hit economy as infections slowed.

CALIFORNIA — Plane crash: Fire crews worked the scene of a small plane crash on Monday in Santee. At least two people were killed and two others were injured when the plane crashed into a suburban Southern California neighborhood, setting two homes ablaze, authorities said.

LEBANON — Fire: Pigeons stood on an electrical wire as firefighters worked to extinguish a fire in an oil facility in the southern town of Zahrani, south of the port city of Sidon, on Monday. A huge fire broke out at an oil facility in southern Lebanon’s coastal town of Zahrani, but the cause was not immediately known.
