CALIFORNIA — Anti-vax protest:
An anti-vaccine mandate protester held a sign outside the front windows of the Los Angeles Unified School District headquarters in Los Angeles on Thursday. The Los Angeles board of education voted Thursday to require students 12 and older to be vaccinated against the coronavirus to attend in-person classes in the nation’s second-largest school district.

MISSOURI — Salute:
Two men pulled off to the side of Interstate 70 westbound in St. Charles to stand and salute as the convoy carrying the body of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz passed by them on Wednesday. Thousands of people lined the highway and overpasses on Interstate 70 westbound as Schmitz’s body was brought from St. Louis Lambert International Airport to Baue Funeral Home. Schmitz was one of 13 U.S. service members killed last month in a suicide bombing at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan.
