MYANMAR — Up in flames: Black smoke billowed from the industrial zone of Hlaing Thar Yar township in Yangon on Sunday. Attacks on Chinese-run factories in Myanmar’s biggest city drew demands Monday from Beijing for protection for their property and employees, while many in Myanmar expressed outrage over China’s apparent lack of concern for those killed in protests against last month’s military coup. Myanmar state media have reported that martial law was declared in six districts in Yangon, including the major industrial zones of Hlaing Thar Yar and Shwepyitha.

BRITAIN — Tribute: Floral tributes and candles placed at the bandstand on Clapham Common London, on Monday. On Saturday hundreds of people disregarded a judge’s ruling and police requests by gathering at Clapham Common in honor of Sarah Everard. Everard disappeared while walking home from a friend’s apartment and was found dead a week later. The slaying sent shockwaves across the U.K. because a Metropolitan Police officer was charged with her kidnapping and murder.

NETHERLANDS — Ride through: A woman prepared to cast her ballot at a ride through polling station for bicycles in Amsterdam on Monday. Polling stations opened across the Netherlands early Monday in a general election that has been spread over three days to allow people to vote safely during the coronavirus pandemic.
