Olympic officials have repeatedly said the games will be held in July as planned after a one-year postponement, though various scenarios including the holding of events without spectators are being considered.

VENEZUELA — Coup Anniversary: Children held a portrait of the late President Hugo Chavez during an event celebrating the anniversary of his 1992 failed attempt to overthrow President Carlos Andres Perez at the 23 de Enero neighborhood in Caracas on Thursday. In 1998 Chavez was elected president and remained in power until he died of cancer in 2013.

RUSSIA — Boxed in: In this image made from video provided by the Babuskinsky District Court, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny stood in a cage during a hearing on his charges for defamation, in the Babuskinsky District Court in Moscow on Friday. Navalny was accused of slandering a World War II veteran featured in the video promoting the constitutional reform allowing to extend President Vladimir Putin’s rule. The politician slammed people in the video as “corrupt stooges” and “traitors.”

INDIA — Aero show: On Friday, Indian Air Force Suryakiran aircraft performed aerobatic maneuvers on the third and final day of the Aero India 2021 at Yelahanka air base in Bengaluru. Aero India is a biennial event with flying demonstrations by stunt teams and militaries and commercial pavilions where aviation companies display their products and technology.

BELGIUM — Courthouse decision: People waved flags and threw confetti after the trial of four people, including an Iranian diplomate and Belgian-Iranian couple at the courthouse in Antwerp on Thursday. An Iranian official on Thursday was convicted of masterminding a thwarted bomb attack against an exiled Iranian opposition group in France in 2018 and sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Belgian court that rejected his claim of diplomatic immunity.

MALAYSIA — Burial: Workers wearing personal protective equipment carried the body of a victim of the coronavirus at a Muslim cemetery in Gombak, outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on Friday. The Movement Control Order, currently enforced across the country, was extended to Feb. 18, to try to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
