WEATHER-BEATEN: The 24-hour period from April 27 to April 28, 2011 saw more tornadoes in a day —226 — than in any other period in U.S. history. Striking in the southeast, this was part of a larger outbreak from April 25-28 called the “2011 Super Outbreak,” which was one of the most deadly systems of extreme weather that the U.S. has ever seen. In Alabama, 50 tornadoes struck. During this 24-hour period, 334 people died.
