WEATHER-BEATEN: The 24-hour period from April 27 to April 28, 2011 saw more tornadoes in a day —226 — than in any other period in U.S. history. Striking in the southeast, this was part of a larger outbreak from April 25-28 called the “2011 Super Outbreak,” which was one of the most deadly systems of extreme weather that the U.S. has ever seen. In Alabama, 50 tornadoes struck. During this 24-hour period, 334 people died.

PAWS FOR EFFECT: Today is National Little Pampered Dog Day, a day to remember that it’s okay to pamper your loved ones — including your dog. The day was created to celebrate those owners who truly care for and love their dogs, but also to bring attention to the fact that not all dogs are so lucky. Visit nationallittlepampereddogday.com.
