TREASURED MOMENTS: The U.S. Mint was established in Philadelphia on this day in 1792. A unit of the Treasury Department, it produces all coinage for the U.S. to conduct its trade and commerce. There are currently four coin-producing mints in the nation: Denver, Philadelphia, San Francisco and West Point.

CENTURY CITY: OK, just the facts, ma’am: Jack Webb was born 100 years ago today. The actor and producer is most famous for the documentary-style cop drama “Dragnet,” in which he starred as no-nonsense Det. Joe Friday. The show ran for eight seasons during the 1950s and returned for four more in the late 1960s. He also created popular shows such as “Emergency!” and “Adam-12.” He died in 1982.
