YANKEES STAR PLAYER AND CELEBRITY Joe DiMaggio was born on this day in 1914. DiMaggio is known as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and once achieved a 56-game hitting streak, which remains an MLB record to this day. He played his entire major league career with the New York Yankees. DiMaggio was also known for his brief marriage to actress Marilyn Monroe. He died in Hollywood, Florida on Mar. 8, 1999.

HATCHET WIELDER Carrie Nation born on this day in 1846. Nation was a radical leader of the temperance movement during the early 1900s. After saying she had received a message from God, she began visiting bars and destroying them with rocks. After a handful of arrests, her husband joked that she should use a hatchet for maximum damage. “That is the most sensible thing you have said since I married you,” said Nation. She became known for entering bars with a hatchet and causing great destruction. Nation died in Leavenworth, Kansas on June 9, 1911.
