BALLPARK TRAILBLAZER: Rube Foster was an American baseball player, manager and executive who was born on this day in 1879. Foster was not only one of the greatest pitchers of the early 20th century but is also widely known as “the father of black baseball” for his work during the pre-integration era as a founder of the Negro National League, and as owner and manager of the Chicago American Giants.
