U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is no stranger to Brooklyn. The Bronx native is regularly in Kings County to visit or to speak with groups at Brooklyn Law School, local churches, or even to take part in courthouse events, like the unveiling for the portrait of Hon. Nicholas Garaufis.

Now she’s finally ready for her appearance at the Brooklyn Bar Association.

Justice Sotomayor was originally scheduled to make an appearance on Remsen Street last April, but when she suddenly fell and broke her shoulder, she had to cancel the trip. Recovered, she is rescheduled to visit the association on Jan. 31.

The event, “An Evening with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor,” is a members-only affair that is already sold out. The evening is expected to last a little over two hours and feature a cocktail hour and a moderated question-and answer-session. A reception is scheduled for after the Q&A.

The BBA has held similar events in the past with U.S. Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Antonin Scalia. They are meant as a perk for officers, directors, board members and other active members of the association to have an opportunity to hear from and pose questions to the nation’s top members of the judiciary in an intimate setting.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor makes regular appearances in Brooklyn, including the time she stopped by the Eastern District courthouse for a portrait ceremony for Hon. Nicholas Garaufis.
