A 52-year-old woman was in critical condition, after being struck in the head with an axe, allegedly by her son, in Coney Island.

According to authorities, on Mon., Jan. 7 at around 3 p.m., inside an apartment at the O’Dwyer Garden houses, Surf Avenue between West 33rd and 35th Streets, 32-year-old Daniel Jusufov hit his mother in the head with the axe.

Upon arrival, police discovered the woman with an injury to her head.

EMS responded and transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition.

Jusufov was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

“Murder is very common here,” said one resident. “Maybe not with an axe, but people get shot all over here.”

“They’re saying the son is autistic,” said a woman that wanted to remain anonymous.  “And they had an argument. I just heard it just now on the elevator. (People) told me, they live on the eighth floor. They know the two and they always say they’re arguing. This is not something that just happened.”
