A penthouse at The Standish, one of several old elegant hotels in Brooklyn Heights that have been converted to residences, has just broken Brooklyn’s residential sales record.

The 6,218-square-foot unit at 171 Columbia Heights sold for $16.745 million, according to The Real Deal. Matt Damon was reported to be in contract for the property last year, and it appears that the actor closed on the purchase – the paperwork was signed by Gary Cress of Los Angeles, Damon’s business manager.

The borough’s previous sales record — $15.5 million — was set in 2015 when photographer Jay Maisel bought a townhouse at 177 Pacific St. in Cobble Hill, The Real Deal reported.

However, the new record may not stand for long, The Real Deal said. In October, the Wall Street Journal reported that a penthouse at the Quay, one of the new condo buildings in Brooklyn Bridge Park, was in contract for more than $20 million.
