A man said to be in his 30s was found stabbed to death in his third-floor apartment on Fifth Avenue in Sunset Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The man, not immediately identified, was declared dead at the scene.

Police were called to gain entry to the third-floor apartment at 4706 Fifth Ave. around noon on Wednesday after family members reported not hearing from their relative, police say. Police forced the door open and the man was found stabbed to death inside, according to police. Family members were said to be heartbroken and left the scene shortly thereafter.

Detectives were searching through video from local stores below the third floor walk-up for clues as to who may have committed the murder.
