~POLICE SEARCHING FOR MAN WHO SHOT 3 ON FULTON MALL IN DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN: Three people, including two innocent bystanders, were shot in broad daylight in Downtown Brooklyn on Friday. The shooting took place on Fulton Street near Gallatin Place in front of Gap. Police say an argument between a group of five people and a 28-year-old man may have led to the shooting. Following an exchange of words, one member of the group allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot the man, also shooting a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman. Police are still searching for the shooter. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~FRANCE’S WORLD CUP VICTORY CELEBRATED AT BOERUM HILL BASTILLE DAY: The aperitifs were flowing, the boules were flying and grilled meats were smoking up Smith Street, but tens of thousands of people with French connections weren’t just celebrating Bastille Day on Sunday, they were popping champagne because their national team had just won the World Cup. One of the largest Bastille Day celebrations in the country took place once again between Bergen and Pacific streets in Boerum Hill. An energized partyon a normal year, this year’s festivities centered around the World Cup final with fans draped in French flags jumping on top of each other’s shoulders, cheering and dancing around the streets as France beat Croatia. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~FORMULA E TAKES TO RED HOOK FOR SECOND EDITION OF ACTION PACKED RACINGJean-Eric Vergne was crowned champion at the New York City e-Prix, which drew thousands of people to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal inRed Hook last weekend. For the second year in a row, the north side of Red Hook became a village with a 1.47-mile, 14-turn racetrack, garages, control centers and grandstands. ~JARED KUSHNER’S FAMILY FIRM ACCUSED OF PUSHING OUT WILLIAMSBURG TENANTS: The hammering and drilling began just months after Jared Kushner’s family real estate firm bought a converted warehouse apartment building in Williamsburg. Tenants say it started early in the morning and went into the night, so loud that it drowned out normal conversation, so violent it rattled pictures off the walls. More than a dozen current and former residents of the building said they believe Kushner Cos.’ relentless construction, along with rent hikes of $500 a month or more, was part of a campaign to push tenants out of rent-stabilized apartments and bring high-paying condo buyers in. (AP via Brooklyn Eagle)

~PACKER HAS THE HIGHEST-PAID HEADMASTER IN NEW YORK CITY: A survey of earnings paid to headmasters of the city’s priciest private schools shows that the head of a prestigious Brooklyn school earned the highest such amount in the city — although this contains part of his retirement benefits as well as his annual salary. Topping the list is Bruce Dennis, head of school at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights. His total 2016 compensation came to $1,002,643, including base pay of $702,450 and a $186,656 payout from his retirement plan. He plans to retire in June 2019.(New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)
