~RED HOOK INDUSTRIALIST HAS BIG PLANS FOR PROSPECT PARK’S KENSINGTON STABLES: He makes his living from cement, but he loves horses. As proud new owner of the historic Kensington Stables, John Quadrozzi Jr., president of the GBX–Gowanus Bay Terminal on the industrialRed Hook waterfront, intends to bring back the historic business, located on the edge of Prospect Park. Quadrozzi plans to turn the compromised structure into a state-of-the-art horse facility. He also hopes to build a seven or eight stories atop the stables, for residential or possibly a self-storage facility, so the equine portion will be able to survive in a low-income environment. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~LPC DESIGNATES BOERUM HILL HISTORIC DISTRICT EXTENSION:Boerum Hill activists have waited four decades for this moment. The city Landmarks Preservation Commission just said yes to expanding the neighborhood’s historic district. At a meeting on Tuesday, it voted unanimously to grant protected status to nearly 300 rowhouses and apartment buildings in three distinct areas adjacent to the existing Boerum Hill Historic District. Many of the buildings in the new Boerum Hill Historic District Extension were constructed either in the 1840s and 1850s or the decades immediately after the Civil War. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~EL CHAPO WANTS TRIAL MOVED OUT OF BROOKLYN: The upcoming trial of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman could be moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan. U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan told attorneys at a hearing on Tuesday that he was still considering a request by Guzman’s attorneys to change the venue for a trial later this year. The defense argues that security measures used to transport Guzman from a jail in Manhattan to a Brooklyn courthouse create a public spectacle that’s prejudicial. The measures include closing part of the Brooklyn Bridge to make way for a police motorcade that’s tracked by helicopters. (AP via Brooklyn Eagle)

~NY AMONG 17 STATES SUING TRUMP ADMINISTRATION OVER FAMILY SEPARATIONS: Seventeen states, including Washington, New York and California, are suing to force the Trump administration to reunite migrant families who have been separated at the U.S.-Mexico border. The states, all led by Democratic attorneys general, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Seattle on Tuesday. It’s the first legal challenge by states over the practice. Immigration authorities have separated about 2,300 children from their parents in recent weeks, sparking global outrage. (AP via Brooklyn Eagle)

~TOMS TO OPEN FIRST BROOKLYN STORE: TOMS announced it will open its first permanent store in Williamsburg. The shoe manufacturer signed a lease for 1,500 square feet at 160 N. Fourth St. The company’s pop-up store had such great success in Williamsburg in 2017 that the shoe manufacturer targeted the area for a permanent location. Trevor Gallina, who represented the tenant through Isaacs and Company in the sale, said the company chose this location “based on incredible sales at its pop-up store and pedestrian traffic that can get close to 25,000 on a sunny Saturday, which I don’t think most brands realize.” (The Real Deal via Brooklyn Eagle)

~DUMBO’S WASHINGTON STREET TRANSFORMS INTO OUTDOOR RUNWAY: Washington Street in DUMBO is a tourist attraction for thousands, who come from near and far for the amazing view of the Manhattan Bridge amongst the early 20th-century architecture and the breathtaking backdrop of Manhattan. In an era where social media is of paramount importance, there is one man who makes it his mission to give people something tangible to make their experience memorable. For $5, Horacio Gonzalez sells visitors a pair ofpolaroid pictures they can take home. “People are starting to appreciate physical things,” Gonzalez told The New York Times. (NYT via Brooklyn Eagle)

~DETECTIVES FREE KITTEN FROM SPACE UNDER CAR IN MIDWOOD: Two police officers rescued a kitten trapped under a car in Midwood on Monday. A video clip taken at the scene shows emergency service detectivesKeith Connelly and John Ryan coaxing the feline from a space above the car’s muffler around 12:30 p.m. When one of the cops grabbed the cat and freed it from the black sedan, several onlookers cheered. The now-famous cat was given fresh milk and is now doing fine, according to a Twitter post by NYPD Chief of Special Operations Harry Wedin(New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)

Beginning this morning, Tavares and his representatives at CAA Hockey in Los Angeles were expected to begin fielding offers from at least five other NHL teams for the Brooklyn-based hockey club’s team captain and undisputed face of the franchise.
