Hundreds of thousands of people lined Surf Avenue in Coney Island on Saturday for the 36th annual Mermaid Parade that drew out waves of mermaids and other seafaring creatures in a summer celebration.

Considered the largest art parade in the country, the summer kick off featured pounds of glitter, body paint and unique costumes strutted in front of yelling crowds.

This year’s Mermaid Queen was singer Amanda Palmer with her husband Neil Gaiman donning the crown of King Neptune.
