The Brooklyn Bridge Park Animal Welfare Coalition is reportedly asking Brooklyn residents to stop feeding a colony of feral cats in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The animal welfare group is seeking to lure the cats into traps–from which they will be relocated, treated and offered for adoption—by leaving out food of its own, according to the Brooklyn Paper.

“When we find that someone’s thrown an entire chicken in the park, the cats are obviously not going to pay attention to our food,” group member Anne Levin told the Brooklyn Paper. The coalition says the cats are threatening neighborhood wildlife, especially birds around Pier One. Park management is planning to redesign signs that tell visitors about the rescue efforts so the signs can be read more easily.
