In his new Slate podcast miniseries “Upon Further Review,” Mike Pesca dreams of a Brooklyn that managed to keep hold of its beloved baseball team.

In the newest episode of the podcast, which delves into the past and explores sports’ what ifs, Pesca talks to Robert Siegel, the longstanding NPR host and lifetime Dodgers fan. Together they collaborate on a radio drama that combines speculative fiction and a realistic narrative that envisions the Brooklyn Dodgers as a successful ball club during its time in the borough. The narrators hail Jackie Robinson as he steals home and imagine Sandy Koufax throwing a perfect game for his hometown team. They also imagine Reggie Smith leading the Dodgers to a World Series against the Yankees and Jay Z as a modern super fan of the ball club.
