INDIA — Mass Wedding Takes Place: A bride and a groom perform rituals during a mass wedding in Surat on Sunday. More than 250 young couples, including five Muslim couple and one Christian couple, tied the knot at the mass wedding hosted by diamond trader Mahesh Savani, who has been funding the weddings of fatherless women in Surat for several years. Weddings in India are expensive affairs with the bride’s family traditionally expected to pay the groom a large dowry of cash and gifts. Hundreds of people, mostly family members and neighbors of the couple, are hosted at lavish meals over a number of days, adding to the costs.

ISRAEL – Boy Holds Small Fish: In this Tuesday photo, an Israeli youth shows off the small fish he caught on the banks of the Jordan River near the northern Israeli Kibbutz of Kinneret. Israel is heading into its fifth consecutive year of drought, putting three celebrated biblical bodies of water at risk. The Sea of Galilee, the country’s main water source, already stands at a century low and the mighty Jordan River, known for its prominence in the Bible, could be best described along much of its length as a creek. The Dead Sea, a marvel of the natural world, is shrinking.
