Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks announced on Tuesday that four judges have been appointed to new administrative roles within the local court system in New York City.

Justice Desmond A. Green is the administrative judge for Civil and Criminal terms in Staten Island; Justice Deborah A. Kaplan is the administrative judge, Civil Term in Manhattan; Justice Tamiko Amaker is the administrative judge for the New York City Criminal Court; and Justice Anthony Cannataro is the administrative judge for New York City Civil Court.

The appointments are approved by Chief Judge Janet DiFiore in consultation with the respective presiding justices of the Appellate Division for each of the four judicial departments.

“These four judges are exemplary public servants, representing a wealth of talent and expertise, and possessing the leadership, vision and collegiality for success in their critical new roles,” Marks said.

“I am pleased that they have accepted these challenging assignments and look forward to working together with them to build on the progress of Chief Judge DiFiore’s Excellence Initiative, exploring and advancing case management and other strategies to make the New York courts more efficient, effective and accessible.”

Kaplan is replacing Hon. George J. Silver, who has been serving as Manhattan Supreme Court’s Administrative Judge on an interim basis. Green is replacing Kaplan, who had been the administrative judge in Staten Island on an interim basis, and Amaker will replace Hon. Melissa C. Jackson, who is stepping down as administrative judge to “devote her time full to trying cases,” according to a press release.
