The Catholic Lawyers Guild of Kings County continued its annual Christmas tradition as they met around the creche in front of the Brooklyn Supreme Court for prayer and to sing hymns. Afterward, the group went to Caffe Buon Gusto on Montague Street to share Christmas dinner.

“It’s a wonderful event because it’s a reminder about what the holiday is really about,” said Dominic Famulari, president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild. “It’s great to get together and reflect on our relationships and show the true spirit of the season.”

Nearly 50 people gathered around the creche as the Rev. Patrick Keating and the Rev. Peter Mahoney led the group in prayers. Afterward the group sang carols including “Joy to the World,” “We Wish you a Merry Christmas,” “Silent Night” and “Deck the Halls.”

After the group wrapped up its caroling, it headed to Caffe Buon Gusto, where there was hot pasta, calamari and other Italian dishes waiting.

Famulari explained that one of his favorite things about the tradition that goes back more than 20 years is that it attracts all different kinds of people. It’s not just lawyers, members or even Catholics that regularly attend.

“It’s a free event that we advertise in the courthouse so we get a lot of people who don’t normally come to our events,” Famulari said. “We get a lot of people who aren’t even Catholics, but want to share in the festivities and positive atmosphere.”
