Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten hosts successful Stein Hoisting Competition
Prost!
The Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten kicked off its Oktobeerfest with its famous Hofbrau Stein Hoisting Competition on Saturday, September 2 at the Grand Prospect Hall, 265 Prospect Avenue.
“It was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time,” said Manager of the Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten Jaclyn Lockwood. “We had a lot of people show up for the event. Some were in costume in their lederhosen and the girls wore dirndl dresses.”
During the event, each contestant held one liter of beer straight out, no elbows bent. Whoever holds the stein of beer the longest is declared champion.
The day’s winner, Dan McCann, kept the pose for three minutes.
“There were t-shirts and beer giveaways,” added Lockwood. “The winner will move on to another competition in New York and if he wins that competition in New York, he will move on to compete in Germany.”
The day’s fun was just the beginning of a month’s worth of fun, which will last until October 3.
“This was to kick off our Oktoberfest activities for the season,” Lockwood said. “We will be hosting a bunch of other events afterwards.”
The next event will take place on Saturday, September 16. The rest of the month will feature live music and food.
