New Hamilton Avenue waste transfer station officially operational
Operations have begun at the new Hamilton Avenue Marine Transfer Station.
Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia has announced that the station – which will handle about 1,600 tons per day of DSNY-managed waste from various Brooklyn districts – got the green light Tuesday morning, September 5.
The $173 million state-of- the-art facility is the latest long-term waste export facility to open as part of the city’s Solid Waste Management Plan – a five-borough roadmap for exporting waste sustainably by rail or barge instead of long haul trucks.
