Flatbush shooter convicted after stray bullet strikes 13-year-old in eye
A Flatbush man has been convicted of assault after shooting a 13-year-old boy in the eye while attempting to gun down a rival near Flatbush Avenue and Beverley Road more than three years ago.
According to trial testimony, just before noon on April 14, 2014, the defendant – 24-year-old Kareem Potomont – opened fire on an intended target, a 24-year-old man, who was struck in the leg. Meanwhile, the young boy, who was waiting at a nearby bus stop with his aunt and cousin, was struck in the right eye by a stray bullet.
Potomont was caught on camera shooting the firearm and then fleeing from the scene. He was arrested three days later.
