Has President Donald Trumpaccomplished anything after six months in office? Newsweek says “no.” AnOffice of Nightlife will be here soon, El Chapo tries to escape, and medical marijuana is coming to Brooklyn. Meanwhile, a 10-month-old toddler wins the “fastest crawler” competition. Plus, we recommend the best places to eat oysters in the city, and we join Vladimir Putin on his vacation. Finally, you might want to visit Miami before it’s no longer there.

~THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS GETS SOME HELP: It’s no longer a question of if, but rather when the Office of Nightlife will be established and the “racist” Cabaret Law repealed. The new agency, which was proposed by Councilmember Rafael Espinal, will be here by Jan. 21, 2018 at the latest. On Friday morning, the Committee of Consumer Affairs officially passed Espinal’s Office of Nightlife bill. This victory for the councilmember comes just over a month after he initially introduced the bill. On Aug. 24, it will go in front of the full City Council, where it is expected to pass. “No bills go to the committee or council unless we know they will pass, so this is a sure deal,” said Espinal’s Director of Communications Erika Tannor. “After the full council votes on it, Mayor [Bill de Blasio] has 30 days to sign the bill into law. Even if he doesn’t sign it in 30 days, it still becomes law. Then, within 120 days of that, the bill goes into effect and the Office of Nightlife and the Advisory Board get to work.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~JUDGE TO PIER 6 DEVELOPERS, ‘BUILD IF YOU DARE’: Build all you want — but you better be ready to undo it all if you lose your case, was the message Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 developers heard at Civil Supreme Court in Manhattan on Friday. New York State Supreme Court Justice Lucy Billings issued a “very limited” injunction enjoining the park and developers from “undertaking any construction that may not be undone” at Pier 6, wheretwo controversial residential towers are planned. The Brooklyn Heights Association, however, was aiming for a complete halt to construction, which will begin with roughly six weeks of pile driving during the height of the summer season. A spokesperson for the park said the limited injunction would have no effect on ongoing construction at Pier 6. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~EL CHAPO TRIES TO ESCAPE THE LEGAL WAY: The Mexican drug lordJoaquin “El Chapo” Guzman says he was illegally extradited to the United States and his drug case should be tossed. Guzman escaped a maximum security prison in Mexico, but has been having trouble slipping loose in New York. After he chose to stick with public federal defenders and set an “aspirational” April trial date, his lawyers argued that he was only supposed to be taken to Texas or California. The Brooklyn federal courthouse was chosen for Guzman for its high security level. (via New York Post and the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~MORE MEDICAL MARIJUANA COMING TO NYC: There’s five companies newly licensed to open medical marijuana dispensaries in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens to serve the more than 25,700 patients in the state. NY Canna, Fiorello Pharmaceuticals, Valley Agriceuticals, Citiva Medical and PalliaTech are now able to open up manufacturing spots and shops across the city. Valley Agriceuticals and Citiva will open dispensaries in Brooklyn. Medical marijuana has been on the rise since its 2015 authorization in New York, which now includes the convenience of home delivery. (via DNAinfo)
