Here’s a fine looking standalone house in Bay Ridge that offers some classic early 20th century features, a surplus of space and a suburban-style spread with lawn on three sides, and a patio and two-car garage in the rear. It’s on a corner lot at 8525 Colonial Road, at 86th Street.
The first floor is bright and large, with a sun room, rear foyer, living room, dining room and kitchen. The living room sports an inglenook — an alcove with a fireplace, popular in Arts & Crafts-style homes of the period — and the dining room’s got a long window seat. Both rooms have original moldings and inlaid hardwood floors.
There’s a butler’s pantry off the kitchen — could be original, though without a photo we can’t say for sure. The kitchen’s nicely done, with a wood ceiling, a stainless steel farmhouse sink, a backsplash with hand-painted Italian tiles, a marble-topped island and high-end appliances.
On the second floor are four bedrooms, the smallest of which is currently being used as a dressing room, with a California closet setup. There are two full baths, including a master bath with a Jacuzzi tub.
The basement is windowed and finished, with a media room, a washer and dryer, a cedar closet, a guest room and a full bath.
There’s updated plumbing and electrical and a new roof; the exterior was painted last year. The listing says the house has been “meticulously maintained,” and the photos seem to back that up.
Listed by Violette Tonuzi of Stribling, the house is asking $2.15 million. Note that the taxes are on the steep side compared to typical Brooklyn row house — $12,335 a year. What do you think of the house?
