Brooklyn Daily Eagle
ON THIS DAY IN 1931, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “150,000 Gems Seized By Trio On Fifth Ave.”
The article focused on a holdup in a Midtown Manhattan office.
“The victim was Edward Berger, diamond dealer, with offices on the 9th floor. A squad of detectives surrounded the building in the hopes that the robbers had not left. In the report, telephoned to police headquarters, it was said that the jewelry consisted principally of unset stones,” the Eagle reported.
