Community Board 10 has tapped a longtime, experienced member as its new chairperson.

Doris Cruz, a neighborhood activist who has done everything from organizing block associations to pushing the New York City Department of Transportation to install safety features on local streets, was elected by her fellow members to serve as chairperson of the Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights community board.

The election took place at the community board’s monthly meeting on May 16.

Cruz, who was nominated by the board’s Nominating Committee, was quickly elected by her colleagues. No one else was nominated. She will assume her post on July 1. She succeeds Brian Kieran, who served as chairperson for three terms.

Prior to her election, Cruz served as the community board’s vice chairperson. In the past, she has assumed many roles on the community board, including chairperson of the Traffic and Transportation Committee.

Cruz has been a member of Community Board 10 for more than 20 years.
