LIU Brooklyn honors schools chancellor Carmen Fariña
LIU Brooklyn honored Carmen Fariña, chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, at its Commencement Ceremony on May 12 at Barclays Center. The distinguished philanthropist and entrepreneur T. Denny Sanford presented an honorary degree to Fariña at the ceremony.
LIU has partnered with the Sanford Education Collaborative to lead the advancement of two research-based education programs based on Sanford’s vision. The Sanford Education Collaborative is administered by National University under the leadership of Chancellor Michael Cunningham.
“Chancellor Fariña has served the city of New York with distinction for 50 years,” said Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, president of LIU. “The chancellor has been tireless in her advocacy on behalf of New York City’s schoolchildren. LIU is proud to honor our graduates and to join with T. Denny Sanford in celebrating our exceptional honoree.”
