Officers assigned to Police Service Area (PSA) 1, on Saturday, February 1, apprehended two suspects for a BB-gunpoint robbery at a playground.

According to police, uniformed officers responded to a report of a robbery with a gun at 2227 Stillwell Avenue at around 12:35 p.m. where they were met by five victims – all males in their teens – who informed them that, while they were in a playground located at Bay 46th Street and Cropsey Avenue, two men approached them while brandishing a gun and demanded their property.

The suspects swiped two cell phones from the victims before fleeing on foot.

With the assistance of one of the victims’ mothers, the officers utilized the Find My iPhone app and tracked the suspects to the vicinity of West 19th Street, where they appeared to be travelling westbound.

Officers then broadcast the suspects’ description and whereabouts over the police radio, at which point plainclothes officers – also from PSA 1 – responded to the location and quickly determined that the suspects were aboard a B74 MTA bus near the location. The officers then boarded the crowded bus, removed the two suspects – one 20-year-old and one 15-year-old – onto the sidewalk and took them into custody without incident.

While searching the suspects, the officers recovered a Crossman Vigilante BB gun as well as the two stolen cellphones.
