Parents, children and community leaders gathered on Thursday, December 3 at McKinley Park (Bay Ridge Parkway and Fort Hamilton Parkway) for another local tree lighting, this one sponsored by State Senator Marty Golden in cooperation with the Dyker Heights Civic Association.

Event-goers were treated to complimentary hot chocolate, cookies and, of course, a visit from old Saint Nick himself.

“Finally we got some cold weather that makes it really feel like Christmas,” said John Quaglione, there with his daughter to represent Golden, and to ring in the holidays in his hometown. “Until probably just yesterday you’d think to yourself ‘It’s not Christmas yet, it’s not winter yet,’ but when we light that tree in a couple of moments, it’s definitely going to be Christmas here in Dyker Heights.”

Donations for Toys for Tots were collected at the lighting, and entertainment was provided by the I.S. 201 orchestra. The lighting was emceed by Dyker Heights Civic Association President Fran Vella-Marrone.
