It’s the most wonderful time of the year, indeed.

With merriment – and ceremonious tree lightings – left and right, it was only fitting that Bay Ridge celebrated its second (of many) holiday kick-offs at the Shore Road Parks Conservancy’s annual Shore Road Park Tree Lighting.

Held on Wednesday, December 2, the event – sponsored in part by State Senator Marty Golden – drew heavy crowds with happy hearts. Both the young and old were excited to mark the start of yet another holiday season.

“Last night’s Christmas tree lighting on Shore Road was a tremendous success and the presence of Santa Claus made it really special,” said John Quaglione, spokesperson for State Senator Marty Golden and the evening’s master of ceremonies. “The music of Xaverian High School, the Guild for Exceptional Children Chorus, and the festive crowd, truly make it a memorable night.

“We thank the New York City Police Department’s 68th Precinct, the Parks Department, the Fire Department and all of the volunteers for making this event so grand,” he went on.

The event – now in its 11th year – kicked off at 6:30 p.m. at Shore Road and 90th Street, right outside the park’s gazebo.

Children in attendance were treated to gifts and a visit from Santa Claus, as well as some hot chocolate and cookies.

“Senator Golden is proud to have sponsored the event this year, keeping in tradition with the event started by the Shore Road Garden Council and Parks Conservancy,” said Quaglione. “We will continue to work together to host special events in our parks for our community to enjoy.”
