Holiday spirit alive at annual Owl’s Head tree lighting

‘Tis the season.

The first of many local tree lightings kicked off at Owl’s Head Park on Tuesday, December 1 as dozens of local residents, elected officials and community leaders came together to celebrate another holiday season.

“The rain couldn’t stop the holiday cheer last night at the Owl’s Head tree lighting,” said Councilmember Vincent Gentile, noting that the annual performance of carols by the Guild for Exceptional Children was, as always, a joy. “Keeping with tradition, it was great to kick off the holiday season with the Bay Ridge community and friends of Owl’s Head.”

“Despite the miserable weather, there was a great turnout from the community to see the Christmas tree officially lit in Owl’s Head Park last night,” added John Quaglione, spokesperson for Senator Marty Golden. “Hats off to the Owl’s Head Park volunteers, the Guild for Exceptional Children Chorus and of course, Santa Claus, for celebrating and embracing the joy of this very special season.”

The ceremony took place from 7 to 8 p.m. at the garden triangle in front of the park house.

Complimentary hot cocoa was provided by the Bay Ridge Manor and music was provided by the Guild, as well as DJ Dave.

“When it comes to Christmas, Norman Rockwell ain’t got nuthin’ on Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights,” said local resident Justin Brannan. “We are the ultimate small town in a big city where the joy, spirit, and warmth of the holiday season all come alive! And the annual Owl’s Head Christmas Tree Lighting is the spark that lights the flame.”
